The following is rough guide to familiarize yourself with Pindar, his life, his reception, and the timeline around various lost, known, and overlooked texts associated with Pindar.
Pindar (Πίνδαρος) is said by Stephanus of Byzantium to have be born in the Boeotian village of Cynoscephalae. The supposed birth-date of 518 is worked back from Pythian 10 which he completed around his 20th year for Hippokleas of Thessaly for his victory in the boys' diaulos (foot race) in the Pythians games of 498 BCE. For more on his birth and life, see the ancient Vitae on this site.
Both Pythian 6 and Pythian 12 have been dated to the Pythian games of 490 BCE and are the earliest verifiable epinikia in our collection.
A high point in Pindar's career, being commissioned for odes in celebration of the victories of Theron of Akragas (O.2-3: four-horse race), Hieron of Syracuse (O.1: single-horse race), and Hagesidamos of Western Lokroi (O.10-11: Boy's Boxing).
Tradition holds that Pindar lived around 80 years. We know at least from the late date of Pythian 8 this tradition has some basis in fact.

Anders Bjørn Drachmann publishes his 3-volume edition of the Pindar scholia.
The architect of this site first meets the Pindar scholia in an undergrad class on Pindar with Dr. Karl Maurer at the University of Dallas. He promptly dismissed them as too difficult to understand. Kept seeing references to them in graduate studies of Pindar. Sent of a list of 10 dissertation topics to his old undergrad mentor of which the Pindar scholia were among them.
As part of the work on an original work on the dissertation, Drachmann's 3-vol. edition of the Scholia Vetera is categorized (in a system since abandoned) and much of the text is translated for ease of reference. First notes on a updated edition are plotted.
Research into the Homer Multitext Project and other theories of textual criticism outside Classic lead to a whole new method of viewing the Pindar scholia.
You looked at the end of this timeline and, perhaps, thought how you could extend it further with your own readings and work in the Pindar multitext.
